This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding advanced practice neurosurgery team.

The Position:

  • Makes daily rounds on neurosurgical patients on the floors and in the ICU
  • Evaluation of pre and postoperative neurosurgical patients and implements appropriate management
  • Interprets laboratory and diagnostic test results
  • Documents daily notes (H&P, operative notes, progress notes, consults, etc)
  • Prescribes medications and treatment modalities as indicated
  • Works closely with the trauma team in the evaluation and management of patients with traumatic brain and spine injuries
  • Collaborates with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care
  • Coordinates discharge process for the neurosurgical patients, including prescriptions, outpatient referrals, educated patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions
  • Opportunity to assist in OR
  • Ability to participate in the monthly Neurosurgery and Trauma M&M conferences
  • Is part of a growing service that will require flexibility within the schedule and may include rotational shifts in the future

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree, required. Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs ARC-PA) program, required.
  • Current Connecticut license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.
  • Current BLS certification, required.
  • Experience preferred. Will consider new graduates with a demonstrated interest in the field of neurology.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.

EXPERIENCE

Prefer clinical working experience as a NP/PA within the given specialty/service line recommended, but none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as {an APRN, PA, CRNA, CNM} via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be able to be obtained during the Medical Staff appointment process in order to be eligible.

LICENSURE

Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS/BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile DEA License, when indicated for pediatric position profile PALS, when indicated for neonatal care NRP Certification. Additional licensure, certifications and/or continuing education credits may be required during employment based on position and area of specialty. OR Connecticut State Registered Nurse License, Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License, Board specialty certification, as appropriate for position profile ACLS/BLS Certified, when indicated for position profile DEA License, when indicated for pediatric position profile PALS, when indicated for neonatal care NRP Certification. Additional licensure, certifications and/or continuing education credits may be required during employment based on position and area of specialty.
