Cheshire, CT (ASG) - ManagementHow will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?The Sr Systems Engineering Manager, Advanced Technologies & Services, hereafter referred to as "SEM AT&S"' is responsible for Driving the development, prototype fabrication and lifecycle management of our automated systems which differentiate Airgas as the US leader in Bulk, Package, and Specialty Gases. SEM AT&S will recruit, develop and manage day to day activities of a diverse group of 20+ multidisciplinary engineers and technicians with world-class talent. SEM AT&S will lead this high performance research and development team, focused on innovating and delivering solutions to Airgas and its customers with relentless execution. SEM AT&S will have a proven track record of developing complex automated industry leading systems, and services. Ensure robust engineering process is in place and adhered to: ie: applicable internal / external Codes, Standards, regulations, Hazops, DOE's, SOP's etc.
Accountability: Personally owns / administers critical documents ie: Project Plans, Hazops, DOE's etc
Talent: Attract, develop, motivate, retain and lead top talent for the following technical disciplines:
Software, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Robotics, Vision Systems, Controls, etc
Develop and oversee associate career progression and mentorship programs
Develop & Execute detailed project plans with sufficient functional decomposition to facilitate accurate estimates and execution.
Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget, proposing any adjustments etc in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain an extensive network and solid working relationship with functional leaders in the following departments / roles across Airgas & AL
Ability to evaluate potential projects at a high level based on deep understanding of the team's capabilities. Capture requirements and make appropriate recommendations / proposals to VP / Customer
Evaluate and protect Intellectual Property (IP) , working with legal department, and engineering teams, as required, to write/submit patentable inventions.
Manage internal / external research collaborations
Strategic Negotiations: Critical parts for systems, devices and operations, OEMs, Telecom, etc
Purchasing: Oversee large cycles with spend of $10MM +
Inventory: Responsible for tight control of ~ $5MM of critical parts.
Work with Quality and Regulatory Teams to ensure products are developed and validated in a manner that complies with applicable local and global regulatory requirements
Develops and maintains critical relationships with consultants and vendors.
Support Marketing developing and maintaining a strong product pipeline of systems, devices or services that differentiate Airgas and provide competitive advantage for the company.
The Sr. Systems Engineering Manager will possess strong technical & practical knowledge of the extensive array of systems fielded and supported by his group. The SEM AT&S will have a demonstrable history of successfully managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in the development of complex automated systems and associated services and support.
It is critical the SEM can contribute technically in the projects in addition to managerial responsibilities.
Advanced Technical Degree, SE,ME, CE, Physics etc. In lieu of degree requirement, may accept an equivalent level of education and / or experience.
Minimum of 15 years of experience in progressive research and product development leadership roles within US or global companies that develop, manufacture and support complex automated systems handling volatile processes ie: high pressure, high voltage, flammable, toxic and corrosive gasses or liquids etc.
Experience managing and knowledge of the following areas highly desirable:
- Mechanical / Chemical Engineering / Physics
- Electronics
- Advanced analytical instrumentation: ie: Mass Spectroscopy, FTIR etc
- IO/ PLC control systems & methodologies
- Robotics and vision systems
- FEA, CFD, Hazops
- Advanced fabrication: CNC, Orbital Welding
